Question:

Skiing in Jeans?

I am going skiing tomorrow but forgot my skipants/snowpants at my parents' house. Is it okay to go skiing in jeans? I am not concerned about the cold, as it will be a mild day and I have ample long underwear. I am concerned about getting snow on my jeans, having the snow melt, and being uncomfortably wet. Is this a risk or is it okay to ski in jeans? Should I just go waste $38 on snowpants at the store tomorrow before I ski?

  1. When snow gets on the cotton and melts, it does get wet and very cold.  If you are going to be skiing a lot, $38 is less than a day pass at most areas, go but the pants, or take a spare pair of jeans along to change into when you're done for the day.

  2. You can also rent pants pretty cheap ,,, you can also get some great deals on used ski clothes at thrift stores, goodwill etc etc in the area that you are at

  3. Yeah, the jeans will be warm until they get wet. Wet jeans are very rough on the skin and after a while, you will start chaffing...which hurts pretty bad in cold weather. Do yourself a favor and make an investment in ski pants...or you can do ski bibs, or even a ski snowsuit. Just avoid denim/snow combination whenever possible!

  4. Jeans let the wind through and get wet and clammy. A quick help is a pair of water resistant wind pants over top.

  5. Before I was cool I skied in jeans.

It's not the best, but if the temps are below freezing you're better off than if it is a mild day. If you can keep the snow from melting on the denim then you can stay relatively dry. If it is a slushy day, you'll get cold and wet.

A $38 pair of snowpants MIGHT be better, but again...only if it is cold. Chances are a $38 pair of snowpants are not that waterproof either.

A few years back I drove 3.5 hours to Jay Peak on a FREEZING cold day and forgot my snow pants. I dropped $50 on a set of snowpants because I was damned if I wasn't going to ski. They were insulated, but not waterproof. Turned out that they were pretty good pants and I wear them when the temps are well below freezing because I know I won't get soaked, yet still stay warm.

Just don't tuck the jeans in your boots. That screws up the fit of the ski boot.

  6. Buy the snowpants, You'll have two pair, so if you ever go skiing two days in a row you'll have a fresh pair!

  7. ehh

idk i would go with the pants i mean if you fall once.. your gonna get suuper wet throughtout the day.

    so yeah its my opinion

    good luck!

  8. its not too bad, you just won't have as much flexibility. plus it sucks when your pants get wet. but if its really cold conditions and its not slushy snow you should be fine. i would recommend buying some cheap pants with some lining it them but then again i don't like chaffing so there you go. you'll be fine if you wear the right stuff under the jeans.
