Hi i'm going skiing in the Queenstown ski mountains later this september (coronet peak, remarkables etc) and i was wondering whether there will be much snow that late in the season? i've been checking up on the snow graphs at the resort websites and they appear to suggest that there's plenty of snow right up tilll a few days into october. is this the case or r the resorts fudging up their snow depths?

  1. Queenstown? there is no skiing there.only a Copper and Gold mining area.

Queenstown, its hills stripped of timber to fire the local copper smelters and permanently denuded by the noisome sulphurous fumes which belch from the smelters, is a surreal nightmare. Its river is polluted.

      So dont try skiing there.

  2. No that sounds about right.

I lived in the south island for years - we use to go snow skiing in the morning and water skiing in the afternoon in October - The ski fields would close soon after but it can be done!

September - October is just coming into nice weather.

  3. I would think you are taking a chance and leaving it a bit late.

However, based on previous records you are likely to have a bit of good skiing, BUT who knows what the weather will be like between now and then.

It's a gamble, and it will probably pay off.

  4. This is probably the very best time to ski, in fact October is good too. They make snow on most good slopes so there is no probs.
