Question:

Skiing in St Moritz, Switzerland?

So I'm going skiing in Switzerland on Sunday, staying in Pontresina near St Moritz. I'm a beginner skiier, having only been on dry for 10 hours, fake snow for 2 hours, and real snow for 1.5 days. I was wondering what lift pass would be ideal to get, bearing in mind I have a limited budget, and hence the £110 one for a big valley isn't ideal for me.

  1. You don't have to buy an all day pass for St. Moritz.  You are at the stage where lessons would really help you jump from the beginner blues to comfortable on the slopes.  Even experienced pros go out with a good teacher now and then to see if they have developed any bad habits etc.  So make your first day a lesson day and your instructor will tell you the tricks of the mountain and give you the 411 on where your should be skiing at your improving level of skiing ability.  Its hard for me to be giving you advise on where to ski without seeing how you good you are getting.  The instructor will know, absolutely, how your skill level should translate into where you should be skiing on the Mountain.  Also, don't be afraid to let your instructor know that you are not "Mr. Rich Guy" Many times instructors have a pocket full of free passes or at least know where to get a couple.  If he likes you, he could help out with your financial problem by kicking you a comp.  And remember when you are with an instructor you generally get to cut lines.  have fun!
