What are the best ski resorts to spend a weekend for a 25 year old couple. I'm looking for a fun or romantic place which is very beginner skier friendly.

  1. Killington and Mt.Snow if you want to party and want easy slopes. Killington has some "Beginner Friendly" areas at Ram's Head area...stay away from Snowshed. Mt.Snow has a lot of easier terrain and a lot of wide slopes.

Stratton may have some cozier atmosphere and it also has a lot of easy terrain.

You're not going to find anything "romantic" at a resort. Your best bet is to find a B&B off-property. There are some nice ones in Manchester, VT if you want to ski at Stratton or Bromley and several in the Killington Area or in West Dover/Wilmington near Mt.Snow.

Lake Placid also has lots of cozy places, but Whiteface isn't the best place for beginners.

  2. I've been expert skier for over 35 yrs. & I own a ski travel agency so I know. In the northeast I would check the Lake Placid area in upstate NY since it was an Olympic site & another excellent choice is Killington Ski Resort in Vermont. both ski areas are about the largest in the northeast & they have an excellent selection of beginner, intermediate & expert runs. If you're not satisfied with these two resorts, then check the website for other ski resorts in NY, Vermont & New Hampshire. Theyu all have plenty of ski areas. If you're looking for beginner runs then check on websites for skiing in these states. The ski resorts all have their own website & then look at the resort or mountain statistics. They all have this info. It shows the vertical drop, which is the distance from the highest part of the mountain to the lowest where the first lift begins. This gives you an excellent idea on how large the area. Also, check the skiable acres & the number of lifts. This will give you an idea on how many runs there are & the more lifts means you won't have long lift lines. Most areas also list the number of runs the area has. In addition, the area will list the percentage of beginner, intenmediate & expert runs the area has. Remember, the type of run is shown in color. Green circle is beginner, blue square is intermediate & black diamond is expert. Some are double black diamond. Keep checking since some areas will have up to half or even a little more than 50% of all there runs listed as beginner runs & these are for you.

For more of the romantic end of the trip you should check the nightlife & the amenities of the resorts, hotels, condos. & restaurants. You can even find entertainment. All these are listed on the resorts home website. Some resorts cater to couples so mention that you're a young romantic couple. Also, some cater to weddings & honeymoons so you would fit right in with one of these. Good Luck & have fun.
