  1. Take a lesson, and at first, though you may want to "snowplow", try and get yourself into a habit of keeping your legs parallel, they dont' have to be extremely close like expert skiers but try and keep them slightly parallel...As you turn, lift or take of pressure from your inside foot(if your going right, take of right foot pressure and vice versa), otherwise, just take a lesson. Its amazing what instructors can do to your skiing ability in less than an hour..have fun

  2. Dry ski slope instructors are generally in it to get money. But if you really want to improve your skiing you need to visit somewhere in the french alps where the instructors are french. They are brilliant to learn from.

I have always found that people that try to get everything technically accurate never progress half as quickly as just pushing yourself forward and just getting a lot of experience on skis.

If you don't want to spend money going on skiing trips to mountains, try to get a private local lesson on your nearest slope and not in a begginers group.

    Hope this helps.

  3. 1. Take a lesson from an eligible ski instructor. (Not just from one of your buddy who "knows" how to.)

    2. Watch DVDs and Read some book/magazines regarding the ski techinque. (It helps to refine your ski concept.)

    3. Go skiing whenever you have chances.  Practice A LOT!  Learn to challenge yourself by different terrains, slopes, snow conditions, and even tricks.

    4. Be confident and be safe.

  4. Take a series of lessons from a qualified professional ski instructor.  Then practice, practice, practice. You learn to ski by skiing, a good instructor will give you the basics that you need and guide your skill development.  Be patient it takes time to master these skills. You didn't learn to ride a bike in an hour did you? This sport requires you to develop good muscle memory, you also need a solid platform to ski well, your boots must be TIGHT around your foot and ankle. Only your foot and sock should be in the boot. The buckles should close with a sharp click, not a clunk or dull thud.

Make some new friends, this is as much a social sport as a snow sport.

  5. The best answer is to take a lesson but if you can't afford that I've seen some beginners who have taught themselves by basically trying to imitate someone who is good. If you have shaped skis you basically carve by holding your downhill edgeand turn by gradually shifting your weight and transferring over to the other edge. If you do not have shaped skis you have to make more of an effort to actually turn the ski.
