Skilful to crush competition in the Betfred Challenge Cup (Heritage Handicap)
The seven furlong of the Class 2 Betfred Challenge Cup (Heritage Handicap) favours the four-year-old chestnut colt, Skilful, trained by, John Gosden. His 8 to 1 chances of claiming the £93,375 prize money will be attacked by seventeen other three-year-old and above runners who have collected for the race from different backgrounds.
The race will be held at Ascot race course on Saturday, 6th October.
The last that he raced was after a gap of nearly three months on 21st September, 2012 at Newbury over seven furlongs. The good to firm surface did not suit Selkirk’s chestnut colt who ended fourth under jockey, William Buick, in the Dubai Duty Free Cup (Listed Race).
The distance for today’s challenge is the same too, but is coupled with soft ground surface.
The bay colt out of, Prowess, is known for his success in the R. Draper Ltd 65th Anniversary Handicap on 24th September, 2011 at Haydock race course over a mile.
The mile complemented the good to soft surface for the Mark Dixon & J. L. Rowsell owned who was not only entered as the favourite of the race, but defeated Call To Reason, by a respectable margin of 3 ¾ lengths with jockey, Robert Havlin, onboard.
Catching up with the third position was, Master Of Arts.
The four-year-old chestnut colt has raced thrice during the current season and has failed at all the instances.
The 7 to 1 shot for the race will join teams with jockey, Robert Havlin.
Two threatening entries in the line-up are Imperial Guest and Regal Parade.
Imperial Dancer’s six-year-old chestnut gelding out of, Princess Speedfit, Imperial Guest, was successful in the Betfair Summer Double Second Leg (Heritage Handicap) on 25th August, 2012 at Goodwood race course over seven furlongs.
He managed the victory with jockey, Tom Queally, and has Jamie Spencer to accompany him today. He is backed by 16 to 1 odds.
On the other hand, Regal Parade settled as the runner-up in the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup (Heritage Handicap) on 22nd September, 2012 at Ayr race course over six furlongs.
Jockey, Dale Swift got him to that position, and today the Milton Bradley trained will be paired up with, Richard Kingscote.
