  1. a) I'm not aware of any actual policy releases relating to immigration apart from the 31,000 increase in places and the new processing centre in Brisbane, but there has been a fair amount of political talk on the subject. I don't think that there will be very many changes to the skilled migration program which is already working quite well. The government is putting more resources into the department, so processing may speed up a little, but I expect at least some of the increase will be absorbed by the growing demand for places. I'd guess that most real policy changes will relate to allowing some unskilled workers to come here on temporary visas, which is something that doesn't occur at all yet. If you have a specific policy in mind, let me know and I'll look into it.

    b) The answer to this one depends on your area of expertise within IT. The specialities listed on the MODL are very much in demand and if one of them is yours, you will have no trouble finding a good job.

I know of one SIEBEL team leader from the US who was headhunted in on a salary of over 250k and my husband has just hired a C++ guy (who had already immigrated from the UK) for a fairly low level job on 85k+ and it took a fair while to find someone. He'd been working in one of our southern cities and decided to follow the sun to Brisbane and had no trouble finding work.

    c) All intelligent Australians see immigrants as essential participants in the task of boosting our economy. Even with our high immigration levels, employers are still desperate for good people and without skilled immigration I don't know where we'd be. Of course there are also losers who blame everyone except themselves for their inability to get and/or hold a job and immigrants are a good target for that type of person. There is work in Australia for everyone who wants a job and is willing to work and the common person know that to be a fact. The losers are in the minority and no one listens to them anyway.

    IT job search websites:

Plus the normal job sites like http://www.seek.com.au/ and http://www.careerone.com.au/

Trawling through the above should give you a fair idea of what's on offer.
