  1. i skim board so, you can put a traction pad on the back then if you have wax put it where your front foot goes. the traction pad and the wax gives you grip so you won't slip off the board. when you go to the beach watch the skim "the skim is the wash up water on the beach" start running then throw the board and jump on then the next thing you know your skimming. it is really fun.

  2. I would go to a board shop and purchase an Indo board. It will help you learn about balance. This is the key to skimboarding.

A common way for finding the "center" of your board involves picking the side of the board up by the rail with two fingers until the board is balanced and doesn't lean forward or back, this is the approximate centre of the board.

When you skim on the surf on land, that is called flatlanding. I reccommend the first trick you learn is a fristral turn. Flatlanding is also the first thing you need to start with, that is when you throw the board onto the skim of the beach. And remember you have to start on the sand before you make it to the waves. Stay on the sand until you feel you have achieved enough experience to take a try with the waves. Or there are alot of people that just flatland and aren't wave riders. But, either way you have to start on the sand.

When you "slide" to the wave you can "pump" or "sideslip" to maintain your speed.

Also, don't go skimboarding alone incase you get hurt. I've had the skimboard come back and hit me in the head my first couple times learning.

Get some wax and give your board a good coating of wax. You can get the wax at any boardshop. Also get a good wax comb.

I also highly reccomend getting a traction pad, as well as a padded bag to keep your board in when its' not in use. If you don't get a bag, get some racks to keep it off the floor of wherever you keep it. Mount the racks on the wall of your garage or any room. If it is kept outside in like a garage or a shed definintly get a board bag. Bags cost around $50-$70 dollars, depending on if you get it at a boardshop. Walmart may have them cheaper.

Once you get better, you can put a rail or find a rail on a beach by the water and ride it. Same thing goes with a ramp. As you start riding rails and ramps, you'll find that skimboarding is actually alot like skateboarding.

And when you get really good and I mean really, really, really good to like the advanced level, one of the hardest; most advanced tricks in the book are called the Wrap. And if you want to take that up a notch, there is the Wrap Barrel.

What I did when I learned was go to youtube and watch videos of skimboarding, but don't just watch.... study the way skimmers control the board with their entire body.
