Skimmer or overflow pools?

I want to have a pool constucted in my garden and I don't know what to go for. I love the way overflow pools look like but I've been told that they cause lots of problems. What should I do?

a little extra maintenance is not a big deal when compared to having a pool that you think is unattractive.
