Skimming through the racing career of Timo Glock

Though the year had not gone very well for Timo Glock, but still he seems hopeful with his new team, Virgin. The German motor racer was born in Lindenfels, a small beautiful town of Germany and started off his racing career from the same place at the age of fifteen. Just like many of the other racers he won various Karting Championships before entering into the BMW ADAC Formula Junior Cup in the year 2000 and the Formula BMW ADAC the following year. During the year 2002 he enrolled himself at the German Formula Three Championship and stood at third place.
Next year he moved out of his home country to expedite his career taking part in the International F3 Euro series; he had three race wins there along with three podium results and ended the year overall at fifth place.
The year 2004 unwound as being a lucky one for him when he unexpectedly scored two points with Jordan in Canada, while he replaced Giorgio Pantano for a few races and latter was able to impress all by winning further three races after Pantano’s contract terminated.
The next year he shifted to Champ Car series racing for the Rocketsports racing team, the season did not see any exceptional performances, other than his second place finish in Montreal.
The next two years were spent by the driver at the GP2 series where he finished at fourth place and was able to grab two race wins. 2007 had been the brightest in his career as he was successful in snatching the title of the GP2 series of the year, bagging five race victories of the season. The same year he also fell fortunate, being named as a test driver for BMW Sauber of Formula One where he gave nine appearances throughout the season.
It was in 2008 that finally the German was able to secure his place at Formula One in Toyota. The debut season was pretty impressive as he was able to grab points six times and also surprised everyone by taking his maiden podium by finishing at second place in Hungary. He finished the season at tenth place in the Drivers’ Championship, one place behind the veteran and his team mate of the season Jarno Trulli, being shy of only six points.
Toyota was happy to sign him for another year but this time both the team and the driver went short of luck. At the first race Glock missed lead in the qualifying, though with a little luck that he had he finished at third place in the Malaysian Grand Prix and later had a brilliant second in Singapore. However, he was not able to race in the last two races of the year owing to the injury that he had in Suzuka at the qualifying session.
This year the 28 year old had signed with the rookie team, Virgin which had not been able to do well all through the season. Having retired most of the races of the season he stands pointless at twenty fourth place of the Drivers’ Championship with twelve races of the season already gone.
His best finish of the season so far had been at the sixteenth place at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
There had been speculations all around every now and then telling that Glock would be leaving Formula One as the season ends to switch back to GP2 or some other series however, Glock is still hopeful of his team as he anticipates for the upcoming season.
Well, seven more races to go and we will see if the financially suffering Virgin team will be able to do any good for the driver or the next season will offer a similar fate to him again.
