Question:

Skin better when I do nothing!?

I've noticed that my skin is much nicer the less I do to it. When I am cleansing, toning, moisturising twice a day every day I seem to get spots all the time and when I leave my face alone no spots. I have tried lots of different products like simple, clinique (terrible), bodyshop, clean&clear etc.

Why does this happen?

I thought cleansing, toning and that was meant to be good for your skin.

The problem is I do like to clean my face to get out makeup and dirt so can anyone recommend something that won''t make me breakout. I was thinking of trying something natural like lush face soap.

I have combination skin and only get spots on my chin.

  1. same with my older sister! when she does alot to her skin she breaks out with nasty spots but when she doesn't do much she has clean clear face!

your skin might be sensitive so only water will be enough?

  2. Hey, I have the same problem. i use a 'simple' face wash one a day now and moisturise with a 'simple' day cream in the day (with spf in it) and a night cream at night. i have also used clinique which i liked but found the moisturiser with spf a bit heavy. also there is a new brand which i liked called dhc that's all olive oil etc. i wouldn't recommend lush as there are so many perfumes and things in them i know of a few people that find their soaps to rich.

    anyway hope i have helped!

  3. it's because it bring out the impurities. If you stay with one brand for a couple of months your face will be spotty at first but then after that it will be better

  4. My daughter is the same. She uses only water and a very mild soap.Consider yourself lucky having natural good looks.

  5. My skin reacts the same as yours, and I am currently using Biore's pore unclogging scrub, and shine control moisturiser.  The whole line of Biore's spot controlling range is excellent.  It is a bit more expensive, but I haven't had break outs for quite sometime now.  (All products in this range have green packaging.)

I do hope you find a product which works for you.  Just avoid the heavier products which clog the pores and lead to break outs.  Good luck.  :)

  6. Your combination of products is most likely not ideal for your skin. It's very possible that you are using things that have benzoyl peroxide or other acne-fighting ingredients. Too many of these, and your skin will react negatively, thus producing the breakouts. I have found Bioelements products to be the best for my skin. You can go to the link I'm including and find your "Biotype". It has many different options for how your skin is affected by certain things, then it recommends the product line that is best suited to your skin type. It's a really cool, and informative site.

  7. Overcleaning will irritate the skin and leave it dried out... thus forcing your glands to work overtime producing oils to compensate.
