Question:

Skin color probability between white/half-black couple?

My girlfriends mom is white, her dad is half black.

She looks like she has a nice tan year-around.

What are the odds of a child having what skin color conceived by the two of us?

I have no idea how genes work, and found it interesting.

She is a quarter black, and I'm white.... between the two of us, that's 12.5% black? yes?

So the child can be, white, mixed, or black. What are the chances of each? I have no idea. She asked me this question the other day and I couldn't really answer it with confidence. I looked on the internet for a few minutes, but was having a hard time wording the question, so I figured I'd ask here.

  1. My cousins are half white/half black.  The mother of one of my cousins children is Asian and their child is as dark skinned as he is.  The mother of another cousin's child is German/Swedish and their child has Caucasian skin and hair. So, it really is a tossup what the result is.

  2. I would say that her genes for melanin are more dominant so you'd probably have a fifty fifty chance of your child being her skin color or yours. I doubt your baby will be dark if you too are light.

  3. ASK A DOCTOR MY BROTHER AND I ARE BOTH A QUARTER INDIAN BETWEEN MY MOM AND DAD AND I DON'T LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THAT I AM WHITE UNLESS IM IN THE SUN FOR A FEW DAYS THEN I TAN LIKE AN INDIAN BUT MY BROTHER HAS A SLIGHT DARER COMPLEXION FROM IT SO IT DEPENDS I MEAN YOU CAN TELL HES WHITE BUT HES A BIT DARKER  ASK A GENETIC DOCTOR BUT I WOULD THINK IT WOULD LOOK MAINLY WHITE WITH A DARKER COMPLEXION LIKE YOUR GIRL SO ITS ALL UP TO THE MIRACLE OF LIFE ITS SELF THERE IS NO TELLING 100 PERCENT EVEN IF YOU CONSLT YOUR DOCTORS BUT GOOD LUCK
