  1. I've not tried the diet, but I have read the book.

I was already a vegan when I picked it up and I found it interesting.

I don't agree with the sample menus that they give - almost every meal has a meat substitute. This can be expensive and is not always a good option as the soy meats can have a TON of sodium. Granted, you are not consuming nearly the fat, calories or cholesterol that a dead animal has, but the trade off is not that great.

The food ideas can be modified to cut out that component and I think that many people should consider that.

As they stated in the book, drastically altering the diet will not automatically make someone a skinny *****. Exercising, drinking plenty of water, not eating a lot of processed foods, getting plenty of sleep and a host of other things come into play where weight loss in concerned.

  2. I read the book and that was the last push it took for me to go vegan.  The book gives you great ideas.  The sample menus do rely heavily on prepared foods.  It’s far better to make from scratch and avoid the processed items.  But, I could see for people who have a hard time being vegan, that those familiar items could ease the transition.  At the end of the book, it says that they came up with the name to grab people’s attention.  They don’t really have that superior attitude.  And the book is really not about being skinny, but being healthy and not feeling like c**p.  Warning-  the book is pretty graphic and there’s offensive language if that bothers you.  I thought it was well worth reading.  I also bought the Skinny B in the Kitch.  I haven’t made anything yet but have marked many recipes.

  3. The book is amusing, a quick read. I read it in about an hour or so and enjoyed it, but it isn't really a diet. I completely agree with what the others said, the sample menus do put too much emphasis on meat substitutes. It's not a bad book for someone either thinking about becoming a vegan or just getting started. I also agree that being vegan alone won't make you a skinny b*tch. LOL You really do have to watch your calories in versus calories out just the same. :o)
