Skipper Alfonso Thomas satisfied with Somerset’s performance in CL T20 – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alfonso-Thomas-c991, has expressed complete satisfaction over his team’s performance in the Champions League Twenty20, where the County side reached the semi-final stage.
The Somerset men had to play a qualifying round in order to make to the main stage of the big tournament. After winning both qualifying round games, the side continued doing well and unexpectedly stormed into the semi-finals.
However, their journey ended when the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians overcame the English side by 10 runs and booked a berth in the finale. It was a crunch contest, as the Englishmen were in a strong position to achieve MI’s target of 161 before the collapse began.
As soon as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/C-Kieswetter-c1206 returned to the pavilion after smashing a quick 62, the Indians tightened their grip on the game and ended the affair on the winning side.
Despite showing disappointment over losing the crucial game after doing well initially, Thomas was not very upset, saying that reaching semi-final was a huge achievement.
"Definitely we are disappointed but it was something we hadn`t imagined landing up just 24 hours before the first match, and reaching this far. There were a couple of boys in the side and they would return as men," chuckled Thomas.
The Somerset skipper added, "This time we have really fought hard and I`m proud of my boys. They have entertained right from the first match."
Talking about his team’s failure to achieve the target against Mumbai Indians after taking a very good start, Thomas shared that losing a bit of momentum in the middle-order hurt the side most.
He however, did not forget to give full credit to Mumbai bowlers, particularly http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SL-Malinga-c2540 for bowling magnificently in the death overs.
The Somerset side meanwhile, lamented over the absence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KA-Pollard-c1754, who represented the side in the English domestic competition but when it came to the CL T20, the Caribbean all-rounder preferred playing for his Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit.
"We lost a bit in the middle overs, but that`s usually the time Polly (Kieron Pollard) bats for us and he was playing for the other team,” shared the 34-year-old South AfricaN cricketer.
