Skipper Markus Wieser happy as Germany’s Container finishes second at Audi TP52 World Championships
Germany’s Container had a slow start at the 2011 Audi TP52 World Championships in Sardinia, as they finished ninth on the first day. However, they hit back into the event with some excellent scores later and finally managed to occupy second podium place
behind America’s Quantum Racing, who won the championship with 17 points.
German TP52 Container led the first race from the start and finally crossed the finish line first followed by Quantum Racing and Audi Azzurra Sailing Team.
Meanwhile, in the second race, they again gave a good start leading the seven boat fleet to the upwind mark but were crossed over by the American team and finished second. However, skipper German team, Marcus Wieser is happy with the team’s finish at the
championship and believes they had a good competition in Sardinia.
While speaking to local reporters at the end of the event, Wieser said, “We are happy that it finished up like this, it was a long season and the last two regattas we hard with no boatspeed. But here we changed everything, a complete new set up with Don
Cowie, and we had boat speed again and could be more aggressive in the way we sailed. We were so slow in Cartagena. But second here is good.”
He added, “We knew we could do better than we did in the past and had the better boat speed to do it. With more preparation we can get there. Don will be back with us next year with some new sail designs planned, we will back fully motivated. Quantum have
shown they are the team to beat”
