Question:

Skipping a meal question???

You know how if you don't eat you'll lose calories? Well I don't want to go anorexic, but what if I only skipped one meal a day? I won't be starving my self but I'll lose calories, right? I eat a lot every day, especially after school so I'm wondering if this will be okay to help me control my caloric intake. Besides, I hate school lunches and don't want to prepare a home lunch everyday.

Please help. Thanks :)

  1. Skipping meals is not a good idea.  When you skip meals, your body goes into starvation mode - your metabolism slows and your body preserves energy because it doesn't know when more fuel is coming.  So by skipping meals, you are actually burning less calories than you would if you ate something.

  2. No thats not the way to go don,t skip any meals in stead have 3 or 4 meals a day but small ones thats the way to go.

  3. bring something like a celery stick that has low calories for lunch and you'll be fine

  4. Sometimes I skip breakfast and sometime I skip lunch but i never skip both in the same day. It just depends on if i had time to eat bcuz im really busy. You wont gain any weight but make sure when u get home from school u eat something cuz thats wut i do i dont want to starve my self, because I've heard that if u skip meals ur metabolism slows down and i guess u could gain weight from doing that.

Try eating 200 calorie breakfasts and 200 calories Lunches or something if ur concerned about calorie intake.

  5. only problem with that is that you'll prolly be super hungry by the time you get home and then eat a lot. What I'd do if I was you is eat 5 small meals a day (i.e. an egg for breakfast, and then have a piece of fruit for a midmorning snack, and a granola bar or protein bar for lunch, etc). When you keep feeding your stomach, your stomach is constantly at work to digest the food, and since your stomach is always working to digest, your metabolism speeds up so you're burning more calories for longer. but if you skip a meal, your metabolism slows WAY down and it takes longer to burn off calories.

  6. Since you're young and you go to school , you need to eat a healthy breakfast and lunch.  you can have a light dinner like a 200 calorie meal.  Eat healthy foods only and avoid junk food.

  7. I dont like school lunches either

but pack an apple or something

and thats easy to bring a long with you..

or a bag of almonds... if can be that little if you would like

make sure you do eat a breakfast though.

  8. UGH! HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU!! YOU WOULD TRUST COMPLETE STRANGERS INSTEAD OF ME?!?!?!?

Your body is already used to consuming as much calories as you usually eat. If you try to control it so fast by skipping meals, your metabolism will switch to an automatic program where it slows down so that you will burn calories and glucose more slowly. You should eat about 6 or 5 healthy, fiber-full, and right portioned meals. You body will function and burn more calories when you exercise because you are eating MORE OFTEN, NOT MORE.

Back in the hunter-gatherer days, human bodies were used to storing up "glucose" in times of plentiful food and burning even less glucose and fat when you have less food. It burns your glucose, but also your muscle mass, so when you start eating right or as much again as you used to (which you eventually will) you will gain more weight and have even less muscle than you originally started with.

Control your calories by exercising AND eating plenty of healthy fiber foods in the morning and all day like carrots, any green and fresh vegetables (avoid too much starchy ones like potatoes and corn), fruit, and plenty of water. Fiber keeps your appetite down and they and fruit have plenty of special vitamins and acids that you need.

Make sure that you exercise too, that uses up your extra glucose and builds muscle mass.

LISTEN TO WHAT I SAY, JESSICA! You know me. I know what I'm talking about. Skipping meals is never the answer (unless you usually eat like 12 a day =P) Remember: Eat more OFTEN, not MORE. Good luck! =D

  9. Your suppose to eat 3 meals aday. Skipping a meal will not help you lose weight..When you eat it keeps your metabolism going which help burn fat. When you do not eat it take longer for the fat to burn I just lost 42 pds on Jenny Craig diet and i couldn't believe all the food we had to eat to lose weight ..So yes you should try to eat 3 times a day..Also look at this:

  10. It can actually work against you to skip meals.  It can slow you metabolism, the rate at which your body burns calories.  In fact, it is better to divide meals up into smaller portions 4-6 times a day so that your body is buring calories all day.  Most important -- don't skip breakfast!
