  1. YES!! I thank my Mom for telling me at age 11 that I was getting a big butt. It made me self-aware for life.

Anyhoo, I weighed about 110, and started gradually jumping rope, but worked up to about 20 minutes without stopping and I was down to 95 in about a month. (I was short. Not too skinny.)

I also quit getting ice cream and cookies at every commercial, and had an orange every night after dinner. That probably had something to do with it...  But I remember working up a sweat!  Go for it!  Count.  Start at 15-20, and work up to 100, then 150, etc. It's fun.  We did it together.  Try to get a jump roping buddy.

Bless you and good luck!  :)

  2. yes and no.

Skipping is an aerobic exercise which will help you burn off fat but it's not really recommended for very large people as the impact on landing can do damage to the joints in the knees and ankles.

Cycling and swimming are good non-impact exercises if you have problems with your joints.
