Skipping the placebo week.?

so i've been taking this sucky generic birth control and it makes me have terrible cramps and loooong periods, i went to my gyno who prescribed Loestrin24 i was wondering if i can skip my period week of bc and start my new pack of better bc and skip the suffering of cramps and long period without effecting my chances of getting pregnant?

  1. it IS better to wait for your period week before starting new birth control. You can, however, take it and skip the placebo week and that way you will not get your period, but you are NOT guaranteed to be protected from pregnancy until a month has passed and you've had your first period on the new birth control. Your body needs time (like a month) to adjust to the new hormones in your system, especially if you're going to run them back to back with the stuff you're currently on. Whatever you do, you should still use a backup method for the first month on the new birth control just to be safe, although everyone seems to have a different theory on this.  Better safe than sorry, I figure.  


  2. it is better to get your period and start your pill from the first day of your period that way your cycle wont get messed up
