Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is weighing up the possibility of parting ways with the Anfield club, according to the player’s agent.
The Slovakian International, who was voted as the Liverpool’s Player of the Season by the club’s fans this term, has got two years left on his contract with the Reds. However, it is rumoured that the Merseyside team’s abysmal Premier League campaign has
forced the 27-year old to examine a possible move away from Anfield, in order to win more titles.
Liverpool’s 2011/12 season culminated with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Swansea City on Sunday, which consigned them to their lowest eighth position finish in almost 18 years.
However the player’s agent, Karol Csonto revealed that the defender will hold meetings with the club representatives to discuss the terms of his renewed contract. He also mentioned that the Slovakian footballer will seek to know about the club’s expectations
and plans that they have laid out for the next season.
Liverpool’s failure to finish in the top-four meant that they will be devoid of Champions League football for the third successive season.
Csonto told the reporters, “Some changes have been made at the club and the player wants to know what the aims and ambitions are. We want to discuss with Liverpool what they want and, of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin's new contract.”
Skrtel came to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 from Zenit Saint Petersburg in January 2008 for a transfer fee of close to 6.5 million pounds. Since then, he has made 164 appearances for the Reds and is considered as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
His agent explained that both, the players and the clubs, tend to set expectations with each other over their performances. However, he went on to say that the centre-back holds a lot of respect for Liverpool and that they have got the potential to challenge
for a Champions League place in the next season.
“You cannot say Liverpool won't play in the Champions League. It is a big club and because they haven't made it this year doesn't mean they would not next. There are expectations on both sides, though.” He added.
