Liverpool defender, Martin Skrtel was eager to pick up positives from the Reds beleaguered 2011/12 campaign, and believed that their paltry points tally in the league owes much to their failure to close out the games.

Talking about his side’s 1-1 draw against City at Anfield in November, the 27-year old opined that the Reds played better football than the Eastlanders for a good portion of the game, a fact which grows to show that they can take on even the best in the
business. However, he bemoaned Liverpool’s inability close out the games at home against the weaker oppositions.
He continued, “In the games at Anfield, I think we did well and created a lot of chances, but we couldn't take them and didn't get three points.”
Even though the Reds failed to meet their prime target for the season i.e. to qualify for the Champions League football next term, their Carling Cup triumph in February earned them a Europa League berth.
