Liverpool defender, Martin Skrtel unravelled that he has been approached by multiple clubs during the summer, but has not taken any decision on the subject of his move away from Anfield as yet.
The Slovakian International was without doubt the star performer for the Reds during the previous season. He remained the linchpin of his side’s rearguard throughout, and consequently received the Liverpool’s Player of the Season award back in May.
Earlier, the 27-year old had made his apprehensions over the Anfield outfit’s apparent failure to win trophies on consistent basis public, and admitted that he was contemplating making a switch to a team featuring in the Champions League football.
With the Anfield boss, Brendan Rodgers already tinkering with his squad ahead of the next season, the debate over the defender’s future destination was rekindled all over again, after he revealed that he has recently been approached by a number of clubs.
However, he mentioned that he is currently a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 employee, and will take no decision without taking his club and the manager in confidence.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I am a player of Liverpool because I have a valid contract here. There exist a number of offers but without the permission of Liverpool nothing can move forward. We have been in talks about a new contract but it has
not moved forward.”
Skrtel joined Liverpool from Zenit Saint Petersburg in January, 2008 and has since gone on to make 164 appearances for the Merseyside club.
Since the Reds handed over the management reins to the Northern Irishman in June, much has been said about his cool temperament and his eagerness to reach out to each and every member of the current squad.
The defender let out his commendation for the former Swansea City boss for creating a ‘relaxed’ atmosphere in the dressing room, following their testing 2011/12 league campaign, and also for trying to develop a good understanding with all his players.
“He is absolutely OK. His motto is an open approach towards players and he is very human in the way he tries to communicate with us as much as possible. Thanks to him, the atmosphere within the club has changed.”
