The Slovakian international has slipped down the pecking order of defenders and has been relegated to the bench following a series of below par performances. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Agger-c9884 is the new pair that Brendan Rodgers
is using nowadays and the displays have certainly been better.
Skrtel expressed his disappointment on the lack of playing time and claimed that the decision is up to Rodgers and he respects that. The player is sad that he has not been playing for the last few games and is keen to prove his
point, when given a chance.
"He [Rodgers] selects the line-up and picks the players who will be on the pitch. At the moment I'm not among the first 11. It makes me sad but the coach has decided this and I have to respect it. I have to wait, what else can
I do?
The former Zenit St. Petersburg defender denied reports of him leaving the club before the summer with reports claiming that his former Russian club interested. However, the centre-back brushed aside any such reports and insisted
that he still has a long-term contract left at Liverpool.
He stated that he does not want to make a decision with a hot head and is keen to explore his options when the season ends. There are reports that many top clubs have been monitoring Martin Skrtel’s situation and there is a huge
chance that the player may leave in the summer.
“I have come across such views that it would not be correct to consider leaving a club where you have been on the bench in four or five fixtures. On the other hand, it is hard to put up with. For the present it is valid that I
am at Liverpool where I have a long-term contract and I am not thinking about leaving,” he concluded.
Jamie Carragher is set to retire at the end of the season so Liverpool cannot afford to lose Skrtel.
