Sky Lantern to face fierce confrontation in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf
With fourteen competing for the prize money of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, there are quite a few short listed entries who have succeeded at graded level already. Sky Lantern, Spring Venture, Watsdachances, Waterway Run and Moonwalk are the ones for whom the graded contest will not be a debut. The mile race will be held at Santa Anita over turf on Friday, 2nd November.
The 11 to 4 shot for the race, Sky Lantern, is a British entry, and has not raced at Santa Anita before. The grey filly responded to the first asking for clearing the maiden.
Riding with jockey, Richard Hughes, she won British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Maiden Fillies’ Stakes on 24th May, 2012 at Goodwood over six furlongs.
Red Clubs’ two-year-old daughter then landed the Coolmore Stud European Breeders Fund Sprint Stakes (Listed Race) on 4th June, 2012 at Naas race course over six furlongs. Joining teams with the stable jockey once again proved favourable for the filly who won just by half-length.
The next two attempts saw her putting a pause to the winning beat, but once when she did swing back into form, it was Grade 1 over which she declared dominance over.
The Richard Hannon trained scored a respectable second in the Group 3 german-thoroughbred.com Sweet Solera Stakes and then in the Group 3 Whiteley Clinic Prestige Stakes.
9th September, 2012 witnessed a break in the monotony which was reflected in the first position at which Sky Lantern ended in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at Curragh race course over seven furlongs.
Despite her efforts and recent impressive records, there is raw talent in the field that is waiting to get refined at the Grade 1 level.
Among one of the most threatening entries is the 6 to 1 scope for the race, Spring Venture. The chestnut filly is bidding for extending the hat-trick through the chance today.
The Mark Casse trained bagged the prize money of the Grade 2 Natalma Stakes and then swept through the Grade 3 Mazarine Stakes.
The only post that the profile lacks and is waiting for is the Grade 1 success.
