Sky Lantern’s camp set to challenger Falmouth result – Horseracing news
Sky Lantern’s team has decided to challenge the result of the Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket past week.
The young filly had entered the competition as the favourite for victory, but she failed to meet the expectations of her fans, losing by a neck distance to Elusive Kate. However, the replays showed the reason which kept the race favourite from taking the
top spot in the end.
Elusive Kate’s rider William Buick gave a couple of blows right in the face of Sky Lantern, which stopped her from pushing hard in the end. Although the actions of the veteran jockey were unintentional, he took victory because of that, which is why the runner
up team has decided to challenge the result.
According to the runner up jockey of the race Richard Hughes, “She (Sky Lantern) has been under my nose as she hung left and I couldn't get by at any time. I am suffering interference and my filly got whipped in the face.”
On the other hand, assistant trainer Richard Hannon jnr was also disturbed with what had happened in the race and he said, “I think we are going to appeal. We have discussed it and spoken to a few people and we think we might as well have a shot. There is
a fair chance Sky Lantern might go for the Nassau. She's come out of her race exceptionally well. She settles very well, we saw that in the Falmouth. She is obviously very easy to manoeuvre in a race.”
He went onto say that Hughes was quite confident about the chances of Sky Lantern in the future races. Moreover, he added that the incident at Falmouth has not affected the fitness and confidence of the young filly, who will definitely be able to come out
with her best performance next time around.
The Irish filly has taken part in a total of 10 races in her career, winning five of them whereas finished as a runner up on four occasions. If she manages to get the Falmouth result in her favour, her strike rate will improve to 60 percent, which will be
quite encouraging for her camp.
