Sky Lantern’s loss in Falmouth Stakes confirmed by BHA – Horseracing News
Sky Lantern’s camp has failed to convince the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) to change the result of the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket in England last week.
After a tough battle, the race was won by Elusive Kate, who was not rated as the favourite to succeed. She had been given a general starting price of 3 to 1, which meant that the bookies did not underestimate her potential. They
were right in their judgement, as the victory belonged to the young filly from America.
However, she had to wait for the final result for one complete week, as it was challenged by Sky Lantern’s camp over a controversy in the final moments of the race, where the favourite filly had been whipped in her face by the
winning jockey. Although there was nothing intentional in it, the team decided to request an inquiry into the entire situation.
The BHA decided to take notice of the situation, but eventually decided that the victory belonged to Elusive Kate and there would be no changes made to the result, which came a week ago in Newmarket.
According to a message shared by the sport’s governing body on a social media website, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the result and the judgement was made perfectly. The statement read, “The disciplinary panel are satisfied
that Elusive Kate did not improve placing by virtue of interference and the appeal has been dismissed.”
After finally getting the victory to his name, the winning jockey was extremely delighted. He claimed that he did not have any doubt in his mind about what had happened and expected this to happen.
The veteran trainer added, “It was a very thorough hearing, extremely detailed and very fair. I didn't expect there to be a legal representative on the other side, which meant that we had to get a QC [fellow trainer Graeme McPherson]
as well. Once you get a QC in there it all goes to a different level. I wasn't best pleased with some of the questions but that's their job. It's a pity we had to wind up here but these things happen.”
It is now confirm that Elusive Kate has got six victories to her name, the final one being at Newmarket.
