Sky plus. Why is it that when I put say channel 4 for recording it comes up with "No satellite

Why is it that when I put say channel 4 for recording it comes up with "No satellite signal is being received" But when Record is deleted the signal comes back. The oddity is striking especially when a recording has been set for 1700 hrs! Somedays there are recordings but on most it states Recording failed.
