Question:

Sky plus installation?

I had normal sky and got given a sky plus box, so at the moment I only have the one cable coming from my dish so I can't watch live and record another channel at the same time. I looked into getting the splitter cable rather than paying sky to come at install it, but I went up on my roof to have a look at my dish, which I have had for a number of years, and their only appears to be on output with a cable coming out at the moment. Would I need a new dish? Do old(er) dishes not work with sky plus?

Thanks in advance

  1. Yes you need a sky+ dish. we had a new one fitted when we got sky+.

  2. You will need a new lnb not a new dish or special dish or a dish with magic fairys on. And also if you only asked for standard sky you will need to phone sky to ask them to activate the recording facilitiy.....

  3. For Sky plus you don't necessarily need a new dish but you do need new lnb ( this is unit that your coax cable connect to at the dish) Normally come in 2 4 or 8 outputs good for sky plus is a 4way lnb this will give you two outputs for the sky plus box and two spare for multiroom if need be. A splitter cable wont work you need two inputs so you Can record one channel while watching another, each box needs it own input not split.

  4. Sorry but it does sound as though you need a new dish as well my friend, it will be well worth it though!

I have sky+ with sky and wouldn't be without it!

  5. Unfortunately, they don't - for Sky+ you need a special Sky+ dish.  It's definitely worth it, in my opinion - I love my Sky+!
