Skylar Smith and Amanda Kendall dominate Women’s events: Day four - Texas Senior Circuit
Skylar Smith and Amanda Kendall dominated the titles of Women’s swimming events on day four of the 2011 Texas Senior Circuit, taking place in Austin. Smith won the gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM), while Kendall was the fastest swimmer
in the Women’s 100m freestyle meet.
The session included the final rounds of the Women’s 200m IM, 100m freestyle, 50m breast-stroke and the 100m back-stroke.
The meet initiated with the Women’s 200m IM category, where the second fastest swimmer of qualifying rounds, Smith, claimed the title of the IM event by clocking a phenomenal time of 2 minutes and 20.23 seconds. She was 0.06 seconds faster than her closest
competitor, Leah Gingrich, who touched the wall for the silver medal, by posting a time of 2 minutes and 20.29 seconds.
In the same manner, the silver medallist was only 0.03 seconds ahead of her following swimmer, Erica Dittmer, who earned the bronze medal of the event with a timing of 2 minutes and 20.32 seconds. Dittmer was the fastest qualifying swimmer to enter the final
rounds, as she posted a time of 2 minutes and 21.72 seconds in the preliminary rounds, but she failed to meet the expectations of her fans and finished third in the four-lap swim.
The second event of the session was the 100m freestyle, where the fastest qualified swimmer, Kendall sustained her top spot in the final round and pocketed the gold medal of the event in a time of 55.78 seconds. She was followed by 22-year-old Caitlin Geary
of UN-ST, who also maintained her second fastest spot and clocked a time of 56.24 seconds to gain the silver medal of the 100m event. They were followed by Kelse Amundsen of TXLA-ST, who stepped on the podium for third position, by touching the wall in a time
of 56.85 seconds.
In the 50m breast-stroke, CFSC-GU of Catherine Wagner demonstrated her magnificent swimming skills and occupied the title of the event by submitting a time of 33.09 seconds. She was followed by Smith and Adams Bethany, who followed her on the podium for
the silver and bronze medals, by reporting a time of 33.66 and 34.09 seconds, respectively.
The final event of the session was 100m back-stroke, where Kate Riefenstahl clocked a time of 1 minute and 03.32 seconds to capture the gold medal of the 100m event. Ellen F Lobb and Jess M Guro followed her on the finishing wall as the second and third
position holders, with timings of 1:03.81 and 1:04.27 minutes, respectively.
The championships concluded after the completion of Women’s swimming events, while the winners received medals for their impeccable swims.
