For a job application, I need to use Skype. So far I've gone through two different headsets (one walmart brand and Philip's headset/webcam). Does anyone know of any mics that are compatible? The Philips headset had a white and black plugs, and my computer doesn't even have those plugs! I think they have to be green and red/pink. Please help!

  1. Any headset is ok.  Any microphone is ok.

But, best results are derived by using a USB headset with built-in microphone.  And, USB headsets that incorporate digital signal processing (DSP) is even better for voice quality.

I have been using Plantronics DSP-400 and DSP-500 headsets over the past couple years with Skype with excellent results.  (I'm not sure if they have been replaced by newer models though).

But, there are really many, many makes and models to choose from.

  2. As far as I know, you can use any microphone, just needs to be compatible with your computer.

You need to make sure you choose something that will work with your computer.

I use a mike/headset that goes through the USB port (the rectangular one) and it always worked fine.  The green and pink plugs usually go into a sound card in the back of your computer, and the headset will normally state it on the packet.

My headset is a Logitech USB mike/headphones, worked fine with Skype.

    :)
