Question:

Skype credit expires too fast?

I called a friend using skype in Florida. Skype states that 0.021 $ per minute of calling. I have not even talked 30 seconds and my skype credit drops from 27 cents to 15. How is it possible? If I'm not wrong, 0.021 is not 21 cents per minute but less, so what's going on?

  1. There is  a connections charge.

  2. Most calling plans, not sure about Skype, have a connection charge per call of a few cents.

In the UK most suppliers charge 5 or 6p per connection plus the time charge.

  3. All calls in USA/Canada are 2.1 cent/min ($US).

All SkypeOut calls are subject to 3.9 cent/min connection fee ($US) per call.

All calls are rounded-up to nearest full minute.

Thus, a 30 second call will cost 6.0 cents.

If you made any other attempts to call and the connection broke-off, after few seconds, that call still cost 6.0 cents.

The two together would add-up to 12 cents, which could explain your drop from 27 to 15 cent balance...

Also, note that if your billing address is in Europe, all Skype charges include a 15% VAT tax.

You may be better off getting SkypePro for $3/month.

SkypePro give unlimited USA/Canada calling including conference calling..... and No Connection fees.
