Drop in price helps The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim hold on to the top spot, as Modern Warfare 3 slips another place leading up to Christmas
Christmas is just around the corner and it is crunch time in the United Kingdom’s interactive entertainment industry as the next few days of sale can make or break the publisher’s hopes of reaching their sales targets or making that extra bit of profit.
Below is the Software sales chart for the United Kingdom, for the week ending 17th December.
10. Professor Layton and the Spectre’s Call: One of the few Nintendo games to have made it into the top 10. Professor Layton seems to be doing rather well for himself and for Level 5, the game’s developer, as it spends yet another week in
the top end of the charts.
9. Need for Speed: The Run: The only racing game to still manage to hold down a place in the charts, The Run has jumped up four places from 13th to land where it has. The game has been criticized by many to end before it gets
going, yet one can expect DLC to be announced for the game sooner rather than later.
8. Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games: to be honest we are at a loss for words as the game breaks into the top 10 in convincing fashion. Our only explanation for the unexpectedly high sales of the game has to be the fact that it has
London 2012 Olympics written on the title.
7. Assassin’s Creed: Revelations: Ezio Auditore is enjoying his pre-Christmas vacation, ignoring the fact that he is of course dead, in the top ten, yet it seems the assassin’s time in the charts is coming to a close as he slips down two
places this week.
6. Battlefield 3: one of three games that did not move at all in the charts is Electronic Arts’ return to the classic Battlefield franchise with their latest modern-military first-person shooter. The game has exceeded expectations in terms
of sales and continues to do well.
5. Saints Row: The Third: think of the most erratic, spontaneous and an original twist on the standard open world sandbox gameplay that games such as Grand Theft Auto made popular, Saints Row: The Third continues to attract gamers in their
dozens.
4. FIFA 12: Not much needs to be said here, as EA’s best selling franchise continues to do what it does so well: sell in large numbers.
3. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3: slips down to number three as a certain party game takes the number two spot.
2. Just Dance 3: is level with Ubisoft’s previous highest position in the charts during Christmas as the UK seems to want to dance this holiday season.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: topping the pile for yet another week is Bethesda’s latest foray into the Elder Scrolls series, Skyrim. It seems dragon hunting is the best way to celebrate Christmas.
