Developer claims that the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s combat is not as exciting or fluid as Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning which will provide a richer experience.
Standing on the side-lines here is Bettor.com as we gather for the first round between the fan favourite and people’s champion, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the contender, the new kid on the block Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
Dramatics aside, it seems that the war of words between the two role playing games have begun with Reckoning developer, Ken Rolston, taking the first swing.
Speaking in an interview he explained that Reckoning’s combat system filled the void with what was lacking in Skyrim. He said, “The pace, fluid movement, tactical richness, and physical and visual theatre of fantasy combat has always seemed the weakest feature
of video RPGs, and Reckoning offers a fresh new answer in that department.”
One would normally put such statements off as an attempt to build hype for their titles, but Rolston knows what he is taking about considering the fact that the man was the lead designer of both Morrowind and Oblivion, two games from the Elder Scrolls series
themselves.
It seems that Reckoning will be a direct competitor to the behemoth that is The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as it pretty much has everything Bethesda’s game has to offer, and then some.
He continued, “Both game are Way-Too-Big, and have Way-Too-Much-To-Do, and they both seduce you into playing for hours and hours and hours. They both have whacking big epic storylines and elaborate faction quest lines, and boatloads of quests, and lots of
characters and books, and lots of crafting and alchemy, and lots of ways to customize your character.”
So far Reckoning sounds like Skyrim’s long lost twin brother, yet the question as to the matter of whether Reckoning will have any dragons remains unanswered.
If one was to take Rolston’s word it seems that gamers have another worthy RPG to look forward to but one has to wonder whether or not Reckoning will deliver on the promised experience or whether the game will take an arrow in the knee.
