Slalom or GS?

Which type of racing do you prefer?

Personally, I love slalom, it's so technical and fun! (and I'm good at it) But I think I'm the only one on my team that feels this way.

Seriously, why hate slalom?

  2. actually gs is much more technical than sl. every imperfection of edging vs. gliding is exaggerated in your timing during a gs race moreso than during a slalom run. I do agree with you that slalom is alot more fun, there's no time to think between gates...you just "do it" and let your skill and talent lead you from turn to turn.

I was alot better at gs so that was what I concentrated on. I wasn't the best skier but had a knack for generating speed and holding an edge without losing time so instead of improving my overall skiing ability I just specialized in gs and muscled my way though the slalom events

I've learned to appreciate the natural beauty of slalom and the fact that it is just "fun"

edit note****alot of flaws can be hidden by leg strength in slalom....for a number of years herman meyer was the top slalom racer in the world but far from the best skier. ANY turn in gs that is edged will show on the clock

  3. i am just beginning but all of the older members of my group prefer slalom. i think it's bc although GS is more technical, it's easier to pick up the basics, where as slalom is harder to pick up and appears harder.

  4. While I loved Slalom when I raced, GS had it all: Speed and technical aspects. I knew several, however, that perferred slalom.

  5. I like slalom.  It is more fun than gs or superg.  if you dont have quick feet though, i see where it would be no fun.
