Slap shot help????????

Im 13 and when i go to take a slapshot on th ice i cant get it of the ice its g*y.I use a nike/bauer stick with 85 flex on it.I have a net set up in my backyard and i shoot off of plastic sheets.I haver an amazing wrist shot but im defense and i need slapshots now.Would it help if the taped a 1-5 pound weight on the blade ofmy stick and just took wind ups then try with out the weight?If i did that with my wrist shot would it make it faster?pls help

  1. + 5 lbs. is a bit much.

    I use a thing called "Strong Arms" that Luc Robitaille endorsed a few years ago. It has weights and a velctro strap of sorts so you put it on your stick for increased resistance and then take it off come game time. I play both defence and forward and the wrister is not used enough in my opinion. What good is a shot that gets blocked resulting in an odd-man break the other way especially if it might break your stick? At your age/level accuracy is more important than shot speed. That comes with repetition. Also work on your backhand being that you won't always be able to play the puck on your forehand

    Something else that will help:

    When you're practising in your backyard are you in shoes? in-lines? ice skates?

    With a hockey ball? Roller hockey puck? Ice puck? Regulation size or weighted?

    Gotta simulate off-ice as close to on-ice as possible.
