What is the best thing to use to fill & smooth between slate pieces.

  1. To fill the gaps between slate, use bees wax or plaster.  The main problem with bees wax is that you can't sand it.  Use a razor edge to make the edges butt even with each other and remove the excess wax.  The problem with plaster is that you can't sand iot either.  Believe it or not, it's harder than the slate and sanding will only cause a valley between the edges of the slate and plaster.


  2. A common sealing wax works very well. You can find it at any of your larger hardware stores. You will need a small propane torch to heat up the gaps of the slate and any other cracks or divots that need filling. Go to refelting.com and they will show you exactly how to do it. Good luck to ya!
