Question:

Slate/flagstone grout or mortar?

I just completed mortaring a flagstone slate porch and I had intended to use sanded grout, but am a little worried about the grout space being too wide for just sanded grout. I read about saltillo grout which can be used for wider joint spaces. Would this be recommended for my project? Or should I continue with the sanded grout option?

  1. First off slate and flagstone are two different stone, but is this outside or inside where the stone is at. I have flagstone on my front porch which I used cement and I have slate in my foyer which I use grout. as for big gaps I would worry it would crack. check with a local tile supply and ask what they would use for your job. Good luck
