  1. Republican. The party was born in Jackson Michigan by slavery abolitionists. People that where greatly opposed to slavery.

  2. What is the point to your question?  If it's a weak attempt to pat the Republican party on the back, it's not the same Republican party.  The old Republican party has been replaced by religious nuts that don't practice what they preach and live by the do as I say, not as I do philosophy.

  3. Republican Democrates wanted to keep it

  4. There would have been no seceding from the Union by southern states, therefore no civil war, therefore no abolition of slavery, if the Republicans hadn't supported abolition of slavery.  The Democrats opposed abolition, that's history.

BTW Democrats also opposed the 1957 and 1964 civil rights acts.  It was Republicans who passed them.

  5. republican!

  6. Ending slavery, at least in the part of the emancipation proclamation, was really a strategic move. The confederate army was pushing north, and by proclaiming the slaves free, Lincoln hoped to cause confusion and upheaval in the south.

    So it was the Republicans.

  7. Republican

  8. Republican.  Too bad today's Republican Party is nothing like the Republican Party of 1865.  The country would be much better off.

  9. Republican. The democrats were openly pro slavery and in return started the KKK. Read all about it.

  10. Most of the Democrats are claiming that the Republican party has changed. Do they believe that the Democratic party is still the same?Do they still want to keep slavery? Do they still support the clan.? Do they still want to kill people like Martin Luther King.? Do they still want to lynch a few blacks each year?

Republicans have changed very little, but Democrats  brainwashed frightened former slaves into believing that the Republicans were against poor people.---Yet Democrats really did very little to help blacks until Lyndon B. Johnson pushed through civil rights legislation.

  11. Given that the red states are typically ex-slave states, and the blue states are typically free states I'd say the Republican party is not the same party as it used to be.

If the Republican party held the same values they had in 1865, you bet I'd be a Republican!  Unfortunately they have wondered from their base.

  12. I guess the party that believes in an authoritarian central government that disregards states' rights. Yes, that's the Republicans all right.

  13. The Republican party was founded on this very principle: freedom of the individual.  In a democracy the majority rules.  In a republic the individual rules.
