Question:

Sleep Paralysis? Some questions?

I'm 13 almost 14 and last night I experienced sleep paralysis for the first time. While I was in that state I couldn't move and I felt heavy and I heard a chorus singing. I could barely open my eyes and I struggled to lift my hand but I finally did and I had to hit myself to wake myself. I have a few questions.

1. What was the singing?

2. If I have experienced sleep paralysis once, is it likely i will again?

3. What are some beliefs about sleep paralysis?

4. Why was I able to slightly move my arm but not the rest of me?

thank you :)

  2. I think sleep paralysis occurs when you've somehow gained consciousness while your mind/body is still asleep if that makes any sense...

I've had it heaps of times when I was younger but haven't had it anymore recently really.

One time I can remember opening my eyes yet I can't move my body at all or hear anything and all I could see is this swirling vortex above me!

    It scared me straight out!

  3. Yes, I have experienced it. At first it was scary, I had no clue what was going on. But I have read into it, and once I understood what was going on it went away.

I will entertain you with a myth: http://paranormal.about.com/library/week...

  5. 1. Partially in dream state.

    2. Possibly, but not necessarily. I had it as a teen a few times, but never since then.

    3. It's biological and prevents you from acting out physically during dreams and harming yourself.

    4. Meh. No idea. Happened to me too when I've gotten this. Some parts recover quicker for whatever reason.

  6. 1. I've never heard singing before, or heard anyone else. This could be the end part of a dream maybe?

    2. Yes it is likely you will experience it again

    3. Its nothing to worry about, not dangerous. I've experienced it all my life.

    4. You sometimes have minimal control over certain parts of your body. I can usually blink my eyes or slightly control breathing.

    :)

  7. I am 15 and had sleep paralysis loads of times and i hate it! I know im  sleeping and can hear everything that is going on around but i can't move. It takes me forever to move my hands and once i do move them  im awake but always out of breath. The singing was probably in your dream ^^.
