Question:

Sleep question ... 14 months old?

My daughter is 14 months old. She has been sleeping through the night since she was about 2 months old. She sleeps from 6:30 to 6:30 every day and makes it known when she is ready for bed (she does this "heavy head" thing that is so cute). Lately, she has been fussing in her sleep. Usually, I would assume she has gas or needs to burp, but this isn't a grunt, it is a cry. We have checked to see if she is uncomfortable, hot, cold, if her clothes are bothering her ... everything we can think of and can't figure out what is the problem.

I am wondering how much noise babies make when they sleep. Maybe this is normal baby noise and I don't realize it?

Some other pertinent details: She just got over a bout of diaherrea and is starting to talk more and more. I know that when they hit milestones their sleep is affected. Maybe its growing pains? Any ideas?

One thing being a mom has taught me ... just when you think you know what you are doing, everything changes.

  1. My son tends to cry out in his sleep when he is teething. Its sort of like a whimper/cry. He doesn't always wake up when it happens. Perhaps your daughters molars are coming through.

  2. maybe she is teething? or having a growth spurt? this too, shall pass.

  3. Our little one is 19 months and although we see alot of changes in the day - like you said changes at night happen too - if your daughter is not hot, cold, uncomfortable then it may just be changes getting comfortable her self

To tell you the truth our little girl wakes up once a night not for a drink or play but for a 2 min winge then back too sleep! maybe its their way of seeing if you are still around or gone!

Try not to fuss over her (its hard i know) but if she wakes again try too leave her for a min or 2 and see if she settles back down herself if not quietly walk into room and just stand stroking her head untill she lays down again

About sleeping noises! my little girl is just like her dad snores, grunts, moans you daughter may be like that or even little night mares ours has them and are very common is this age - monitor whats on the tv  - no scarey monsters, fighting, loud noises and dont let your baby play or get wound up 15-20 mins before bed time its helped our little girl

If your really worried talk to your health visitor

    Good luck Donna -x-
