Sleep question-is this bad for you? ?

I know a couple people who set their alarms to like 3 or 4 am. They say that it just feels good to wake up in the night, look at the clock, and realize you still have like 3 more hours of sleep and go back to sleep. I was wondering though, is this bad for you? Like won't this make you feel more tired when you have to get up?

  1. That is the STUPIDEST thing I ever heard of. And yes, I would have to say that it is VERY bad for you.

There is NOTHING more important than quality sleep - sleep is the only time when your body can repair itself at a cellular level. Sound sleep, solid sleep, uninterrupted sleep.

Tell these people to STOP it.

  2. I normally wake up to go to the bathroom anyways!  But to wake up and see you have more time ...well if that is what it takes to make them feel good...that is ok.  If they are tired...they will get more sleep.

We all have our little quirks.  I cannot go to sleep unless I play about 5 games of freecell.  I LOVE THAT GAME!   If I go to bed and haven't played it...I get up and do it.  IT calms me down and I think it is crazy but it does relax me.  Kind of like meditation!  :)))

  3. It interrupts your sleep pattern...I kind of don't see the point of doing it on purpose.  I do it sometimes on accident because I don't sleep well but would never go out of my way to do it.

  4. I agree that it's nice to realize that you don't have to get out of bed for a few hours, but using an alarm seems kind of jarring.  Plus, if you are deep in REM sleep, then being awakened in the middle of your deepest sleep cycle won't do you any good.  You'll just end up being more tired.

  5. I sort of understand it.  I am super happy when I wake up and think it's almost time to get up, but really I have a few more hours.  But I would never do it on purpose to disrupt my sleep.  That's wierd.

  6. oh good question i do that sometimes in the night i never even thought that it was bad for me, and i dont know i do feel tired in the morning but i dont think i am so tired i need to go back to sleep really bad. i hope its not bad for me. i guess we will both find out when someone has the answer!

  7. I doubt that it's that bad for you but it's kind of weird to do it on purpose

And when I wake up at like 4 and then go back to sleep and wake up again, I feel the same as I would if I hadn't woken up earlier.

  8. its definitely weird. its most likely bad because interuptions during sleep can cause long term sleep problems.

  9. You body will repair itself and rest most efficiatly if you sleep through the night. It does feel good to wake up and know you can go back to sleep but in the long run it does more harm than good,

  10. I would say that certainly it interrupts the 8 hrs sleep one should get. You should ask them if they feel tired first thing in the morning or during the day. To me this is a sign of pressure or aniexty about getting up on time and or getting to work on time.

  11. I don't think its good or bad. As long as you get at least 8-10 hours of sleep I guess it wouldn't hurt. Whatever floats your boat.  :)

  12. Depends when they went to sleep like if they went to sleep at like 6 thats prolly why they woke up so early. No its not bad for you think of it like a computer or some outher little device. You turn it off turn it on then off. Its perfectly ok for the cells aslong as there still like 60% asleep if there fully rise and shine awake then that is bad not enough sleep and later on in the day they will be really tired. NOTE: it matters when they went to sleep
