Question:

Sleeping my life away!! Health Advice??

Before anyone says "See a doctor" I have no medical insurance and so unless I'm on my death bed, seeing a doctor is out of my price range.

Anyway, I'm 20 years old, in pretty good shape, not overweight, I exercise, and eat pretty healthy for my age. Over the past few months I feel like my health is getting worse. I have virtually no energy at all. I just feel drained of all life. I work 8 hour sometime 16 hour days and when I get home I'm just utterly exhausted. I just don't know what to do about it anymore. I feel like I'm sleeping my life away. I will literally sleep 16 hours. I don't want to but I just feel so drained. My housework is starting to pile up, and its causing a strain on my relationship. Anyone have any ideas why I just feel tired all the time? When I get home I try to stay up as long as I can but as soon as I sit down, almost immediately, I'm asleep. I'm not a lazy person and I just hate feeling lazy. I just need more energy. Someone at work suggested Iron pills and I'm going to look into that. Anyone have any other suggestions or vitamins I should take, I'm open to anything at this point. Thanks so much in advance.

  1. Its possible you have mono.  I had it, and it was like that, just exhausted for no reason and sleeping a ridiculous amount of time.  I didn't know what it was, and by the time I went to the doctor, I was almost over it.  It lasted about 4 months, then gradually got better.

But really, a doctor is the only one who could say for sure.  If you live in a larger town, look on line for free clinics in your area.  You should get to a doctor of some kind, even though it is expensive, because this could be a sign of something more serious.

  2. Look into chronic fatigue, diabetes and of course your iron intake like you said.

Unfortunately I'm afraid seeing a doctor is all you have though, the longer you keep on guessing what's wrong the more you put yourself at risk of depression and self neglect.

Get medical insurance, do something, stop wasting your life away and get help from friends and family who have money for the sake of your life.

For all you know this could be something very serious and iron tablets won't cut it.

  3. GO SEE A DOCTOR. You could be pregnant,or under a new stress bit by a tick, and so on....OR nothing at all!!

I CAN tell you that vitamin B helps. Iron helps, for anemia which is another possibility but i would caution taking that unless you get a blood test from a doctor(iron pills can make you sick..and constipated)Alternative interventions,Eat in the morning,if you can't Carnation instant breakfast, or boost. They don't taste that great but have tons of vitamins, swear that's what got me through nursing school!!
