Question:

Sleeping on the beach in Malaysia ?

Hi I am planning on going on a train trip from Singapore through the northern part of Malaysia. I would like to try sleeping on a beach for a couple nights during the trip. I will travel on the jungle line to Khota Bharu first and then I guess on the East Coast for the rest of the trip (I'm going up to Bangkok).

On the way back I'll be taking the train on the Western Coast which I think might be a better option for this kind of wild camping. The train line runs through Padang, Besar, Penang, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, and we might go to Malacca at the end of the trip.

Just wondering if wild camping is legal in Malaysia (and even if it's not would authorities really care), if having a fire on a beach (small one for cooking) would get us in trouble. I'm not too concerned about safety as we won't have much to be robbed of except maybe our passports and I know Malaysia is generally pretty safe, however any tips is welcome.

I'm just looking for a nice, quiet beach to spend a night and relax, clean up afterwards and leave.

Thanks
