I have heard that sleeping on your right side when pregnant isn't really good for you and your baby. What harm can it do, and is it really true? I have to fall asleep on my right side and I turn from side to side at night. Any information would be greatly appriciated!

  1. the BEST position later in pregnancy is on the left side but sleeping on the right side isn't "bad" after your 20th week or so you shouldn't seep on your back because the weight of your uterus + the baby can compress your vena cava and cause a decrease in blood flow to your lower extremeties and to the baby. any other sleeping positions are fair game tho.

  2. I had massive problems with getting my 3 month old son to sleep.  He would just lie awake and cry for hours, then when he finally went to sleep he would wake every hour or two hours through the night and cry again!  Talk about pulling our hair out .... we were absolutely desperate for sleep!

It was a baby sleep audio program recommended by a friend that finally saved us. We followed the advice and began by creating a baby sleep routine which included bathtime, dimming of the lights, putting Paul into his crib, final nappy change and then lullabies. We also made recommended changes to his naps during the day and used some of the other recommended techniques. Within two weeks he was sleeping through the night most nights with just the odd night where he would just wake once!

Definitely start by creating a good baby sleep routine though and you could find that solves most of your baby sleep problems.

    Good luck!

  3. I never heard anything bad about right side. The only bad thing I have hear is about sleeping on your back. From what I know your right side and left side are the same the only different is on your left side the baby is off your some of your organs and improves your circulation.

  4. My midwife told me that sleeping on your back after 26 weeks wasn't that good as it can cause spinal damage and cut the circulation from your baby. They do recommend sleeping on your left but sleeping on your right is fine i change sides all the time.Just put some pillows under Ur tummy and between your knees for support and try staying off your back

  5. I could be wrong but maybe it has something to do with your heart? I would like to know the answer myself, and when does it start?

  6. The web page I referenced below doesn't say that it is bad to sleep on your right side but it does say why is is better to sleep on your left side. The only bad sleep positions appear to be on your back and on your stomach. Hope this helps.

  7. i was pregnant but slept as i wished...no danger of that as i think

  8. My Dr told me either side is fine. They recommend the left side because organs such as your liver are on the right side. The uterus can put pressure on these organs, but it is not harmful. You would starting hurting enough to turn over before it became harmful.

  9. I'm sure sleeping on your right side is much better on you than sleeping on your stomach or back.  I think they say the left side is best because it is the best position for blood flow.  I do the same as you switching from side to side all night.  I can't wait to sleep on my back & stomach again.

  10. With my pregnancy, I slept on both sides, back and forth, because I could never get comfortable.  My baby is fine and perfectly healthy.

  11. Your right side is fine they just recommend your left side because it helps with circulation and digestion.
