Question:

Sleeping phobia help?!?

it might sound completly crazy and strange but its horrible. I have a phobia of sleeping. Before i sleep i have to change the bed covers then i sit up all night watching tv... i can only sleep when i dont know im sleeping... if you know what i mean. My boyfriend has to stay with me all night when im asleep otherwise i dont feel safe.

i dont think its fair on him cause it means if one of us goes out so does the other one and he cant go out without me otherwise i get too scared and end up having a panic attack. I feel like if i carry on the way i am he will leave me and get someone else that hasnt got a phobia of sleeping

what should i do ! no stupid answers please

  1. It's not crazy, You need to see someone about it. I would not advise a run of the mill doctor as they will just perscribe sleeping tablets but maybe a alternate doctor [pyc] and talk about it. You need to find out where your fear is coming from.

    I had a similiar problem my fear come from what I thought was bad dreams, it turned out to be sleep paralisys. I still worry about it at times but I know that it is caused by lack of sleep now. also You should realise that sleep depravation is one of the worst things for you.

    Don't be shy about it, there are soo many people who suffer from sleep related problems, just talk to someone.

  2. Trust me I know something about how you feel, I'm scared of my bed! lol.

    Ok, think about a couple of questions:

    1/ Why are you scared of sleeping?

    2/ How can you conqure that fear of sleeping?

    3/ What is it about your bf that makes you feel safe at night?

    I sleep in a sleeping bag at night, in my bed, because it makes me feel nice and safe. Try to find something that will make you feel nice and safe, as if your bf is there with you...

    I advise you to see a "Psychologist" soon before this problem becomes a cause for a BREAK UP with your boyfriend !

    Also you should "Evaluate" your life, maybe the stress of unfinished business or things or finding a meaningful activity to do might be an answer....??


  4. Im going to take a shot at this but more than likely you are not mature enough to get what I am saying.

    This problem didnt start off like this.. it started with something else. More than likely you have had a stressed life and your body is not physically able to  switch gears like most people. The reason why I say this is because you said " I can only sleep when I dont know Im sleeping"... Your brain is over stressed and you are clearly suffering from adrenal fatigue. If it wasnt stress that caused this then it is poor nutrition and exercise.

    Look at these websites specifically down the middle part of the page... calcium, zinc, potassium, magnesium, iron... is where I would start. Look thru the symptoms so you can put yourself out of your misery with education and stop this continued drama.
