Question:

Sleeping pills effects.?

I've been prescribed with sleeping pills two days ago due to (obviously) long term sleeping problems. I'm just wondering, is it ok to take sleeping pills for a long term period? and also, what effects would I have if I stop taking these pills after a long period? Will i get shivering or some sort. Does anyone actually take them daily?

Just curious.

  1. some people can become dependent on sleeping pills....and with taking it long term, your body will rely on the medication too sleep, so if you have to go a night or 2 without them, you might have a hard time sleeping......usually they say to not take sleeping pills everynight for long periods of time. try to take on an as needed basis.....u could have withdrawls of restlessness, sleeplessness, irritability if you suddenly stop taking the medication.

  2. Since they've been prescribed to you then I would not worry.  I have not had a personal experience with sleeping pills as I have never taken them, sorry.

  3. Taking sleeping pills longterm will result in dependency, and depending on the type, maybe even addiction. The sleep they give you is not as restful as normal sleep. Often the symptoms of giving them up will be far worse insomnia than you had before. You should google on the name of the particular medication you are taking. All the info you need should be there.
