Question:

Sleeping problems overactive mind?

Alright, I think I have sleeping problems. I can't remember a night where I've just gone to bed and fell asleep in under 30 minutes at a reasonable time. Most times I just roll around in bed for like 1-4 hours until I sleep. I've tried different counting tricks or mind tricks, but they don't work. I think my mind is over active, especially when I try to sleep. It just races around thinking about all kinds of things so I usually just get up after awhile and stay up later. I've tried eating different foods, smoking, and OTC sleeping pills. None of them work even with overdosing on sleeping pills nothing really happens. I know I shouldn't do those things but I'm completely miserable so I'll try practically anything.

  1. That sounds almost exactly like me, but I never resorted to smoking and haven't tried otc pills yet! I wanted that to be a last resort! I've tried hot milk and herbal tea that's specially made for night time and to help sleeping! I've read in magazines about a warm bath with lavender bubble bath can help, but I'm a shower person lol! maybe try an oil burner with lavender oil in it ummm...just anything lavender really...try not to think too much, try one of those relaxing cds, they work too, I used to have one!!

  2. Sorry Joe, you have been doing all the wrong things.  Go along with Bloody Pleasure and Dude as above but have a read of this first :

Sleeping pills are designed to get you to sleep and to sleep for about 4 hours.  They are good for someone who is experiencing a recent bereavement or just had an operation.  The operatives words there being 'recent'  and 'just' .  They really don't work in long term use as the body seems to get a tolerance to them and swings back the other way.

Cigarettes aren't the go and neither is alcohol.  I've seen some people use alcohol for years to get them to sleep and it just doesn't work but they still go back and try the same plan A.

    It's time for Plan B:

Warm Milk for tryptophan a precursor for Serotonin - the happy hormone which I'd say you are low in at the moment.

They are probably not in your vocabulary but Valerian and Chamomile tea a couple of hours before bed time will relax you.  But make sure you have them a couple of hours before bed as they can relax you and you are too relaxed to sleep.

Make sure you have your evening meal about 4 hours at least before bed.

Remember to do your exercises in the morning and not at night because you are just waking yourself up when you do that.

    Good luck with that...
