Question:

Sleeping with contacts in? Infection?

After not sleeping for like 32 hours, I just like passed out on my bed with my contacts on. So, I slept for probably 7 hours. Then I woke up to realize my contacts were still in. I took them out without any problem at all. My eyes are not redder than usual (not that they're red to begin with...just the natural kind). They're not watery. Or crusty. I did find a bit of eye gunk when I took off one contact. But other than that, they seem perfectly normal... no more of that eye gunk either. So, I should be in the clear, right? No infection, yes?

And these were the daily contacts that you just throw away after one use, by the way.

  1. This should not be a problem. Infections, corneal ulcers, neovascularization, etc., are usually a result of abusing the rules. For example-- sleeping with these contacts in for 10 days, not cleaning them, etc. Bending the rules slightly once in awhile usually is not a big deal.

It sounds like you are practicing good contacts hygiene. Keep it up!

For future reference, common signs & symptoms of infection include pain, excessive eye mucus, redness, excessive watering of the eye.
