I was just reading a question on here and decided to look up some of the products that were refered to the new mom to be. then got alittle carried away and placed an order. I have a LARGE 10 month old boy that I did ware but the carriers I had SUCKED!!! so I had to quit wearing him cause it was killing my back and shoulders. But then I went on to www.sleepywrap.com and just fell inlove with it and placed an order so quickly before it is shipped out I would like to know if you think that I would still be able to use it on a regular basis!?!?!? I carry my son alot, but I tried him in a carrier about a month ago to see if anything had gotten better and it really hurt my back....

  1. I've just taken a look at the website -- and I think the wrap looks very comfortable for a smaller baby, but personally I would not buy it for a large 10 month old.

I have a 10 month old daughter (about 22lbs), and I do not do a front carry anymore (we only use carriers, never used a stroller) -- I do quite a bit of hip carrying with the sling -- but mostly I have her in a back carrier.

Front carry, at this point, is painful for me - it's fine for about 5-10 minutes but then I get bad back ache.

I have this -- (can be worn on front or back, only wear it on my back)) -  http://www.attachedtobaby.com/Patapum-Ba...

Which is perfect for me, it distributes her weight so perfectly, and the support is fantastic - I can easily wear her in it for 2+ hours if we are out and about, and have no pain whatsoever on my back or shoulders.

Personally, I would not think about getting a front carry at this point, I think they are better for smaller babies.

  2. I don't have a Sleep Wrap, but I have a Moby Wrap that is pretty much the same thing (http://www.mobywrap.com). I love love love love love it!!

Admittedly there is a learning curve. It took me a couple of tries to get the fit right. The first week I had it I had to put it on in front of a mirror and have Daddy help me get him in and out of it, but now it is effortless.

It is really easy on my back since it uses your whole back. My 8 month old is 20lbs and he feels like he weighs nothing when I have him in it. The best part is that placing him in the front hold position puts him to sleep almost immediately.

Enjoy your wrap! I am sure you are going to love it!!

(Baby won't wiggle out of it. My very active 8 month old is very secure in the wrap. If you pull the front straps across his shoulders so that his arms are free, but his shoulders are restrained, he won't be able to go anywhere but will still have use of his arms. It is impossible to wiggle their legs out)

  3. I would not be surprised if he tried to wiggle out of it. 10 month olds can be very active as I am sure you know.

I still carry my daughter in my baby bjorn when I HAVE to have both hands free and she's whining.  She is 11 months, will be a year on the 27th.  She can't get free but man does she try.  AND it does hurt my back a little but I try to keep it adjusted properly. Still she's reaching the max weight limit for that anyway.
