Slight returns at St Andrews
The winds may have continued to ruffle some of golf's greatest (those who hadn't already missed yesterday's cut, at any rate) at the Open Championship today.
But while Rory McIlroy forced his way back up the leaderboard, Sergio Garcia also located some much needed form at St Andrews.
Garcia has never won a major, and in the last few months the Spaniard has failed to win anything at all - and his luck didn't seem likely to change after a bogey on the 2nd. But Garcia shrugged off that early slip when he made an eagle on the 5th, pitching in from way off the green. He followed that up with a birdie on the sixth, and another on the 9th, taking him to five-under for the tournament.
That was the same score McIlroy found himself on, having hit five birdies and a bogey on today's round. Both players are currently tied for ninth place.
That means they've got a long way to go to catch up with leader Louis Oosthuizen, but the South African has started with a wobble, bogeying the 1st to fall to 11-under for the tournament - still three strokes ahead of the pursuing pack. His nearest rival is Henrik Stenson, the Swede on eight-under for the tournament after shooting an eagle and four birdies to go six-under up to the 14th.
But Tiger Woods is off to a slower start, the world No. 1 falling to two-under par after a pair of bogeys on the front nine. Still plenty of time for Woods to turn that around, of course.
