  1. probably ammonia burned gills, so change water a bit and add aquarium salt and go down to petstore and ask employees for help, but they mostly will just lie to you and get you to buy their product, those dumb bastzrds, anyway if you need more help email me and i'll help you.

  2. There are several possibilities: chlorine poisoning, ammonia poisoning, septicemia, or other toxins in the water.  Chlorine and ammonia will both greatly irritate the gills, causing them to turn very red.  The best courses of action would be adding dechlorinator if chlorine, and doing a large water change and adding dechlorinator if ammonia.  Septicemia will lead to vein-like reddening, as the bacteria causes the bloodstream to hemorrhage.  More frequent water changes and treatment with Triple Sulfa, Trisulfa, Maracyn 2, Maracyn TC, TC Capsules, Furan 2, Metronidazole, Flagyl, Hexamit, Kanaplex or similar medications would be a good idea.  When treating, remove any activated carbon from the filter, and if using tetracycline or minocycline based meds, keep the tank dark, as these drugs degrade with exposure to light.

  3. either its bowl needs to be cleaned, or it has an infection. call the pet store.

  4. have you changed the water recently? if you have did you use a conditioner? (just making sure they arent chlorine burns)

in some fish the gills get red when they are in a oxygen fill tank (which isn't bad)

if you havent changed the water in quite a while it could be ammonia burns.

there are a lot of reasons for red gills but we need to know a little more about your fishes living enviroment.

ps. goldfish are also known to change colors as they grow
